Electronic Level Switches

These switches use a non mechanical method to detect a switching point, each having its own advantages over the traditional mechanical switch.

Remember each of these devices can be coupled with either a onsite readout, a datalogger, or a telemetry device that sends txt alerts an activation of alarm setpoints. We have a case study detailing a system that monitors a river level flowing under a bridge prone to flooding in the Corramandel using an ultrasonic level device. When the river level reaches a certain height, the system automatically texts 3 different engineers to alert them.

Ultrasonic Point Level Switch

This switch has no moving parts, and operated by transmitting an ultrasonic beam from one side of the switch to the other. When the switch is immersed, the ultrasonc beam is carried through the fluid, and is detected by the other side., however when the level drops and the switch becomes dry, the ultrasonic beam can no longer travel from one fork to the other, and the switch is activated.

These switches are good for fluids that have entrained solids that could jam up a mechanical switch, they are also good for sanitary applications as they can be supplied with a 3A finish.

Vibrating Fork Level Switch

When the swirch is in operation, it causes the prongs at he end of the switch to vibrate (like a tuning fork). The frequency of the vibration is effected by whether the prongs are submerged or not - ths is how the switch operates.
